Thring Townsend Lee & Pembertons
Project aim: To ensure that all professional and managerial staff are able to deliver against this fast-growing firm’s values which focus on such attributes as teamwork, appreciation of others, achievement, moving forward and personal and team improvement.
Project structure: Initially, we were asked to design a programme that would equip those partners holding team leadership responsibilities with coaching skills to sit alongside other management competencies. In particular, there was an identified need for partners to engage in effective development conversations with team members undergoing performance appraisals.
It was then recognised that a wider group could benefit and all remaining partners, associates, solicitors and departmental managers have now been through the programme, which consists of three face to face experiential workshops one month apart, buddy coaching with colleagues in between workshops, a final assessment of coaching skills and a follow-up review session three months after training.
Project outcomes: ‘This training programme has had a significant impact on the way I interact with the members of my team. More importantly, by adopting these communication techniques I am finding that individuals are taking on more responsibility and working together more effectively to achieve our shared goals. As a result, I sense that our clients, too, are experiencing a service that is more focused and committed.' – Neil Barbour, Partner
'Our decision to put all partners, associates, solicitors and departmental managers through this training has undoubtedly made a significant contribution within our overall staff development programme to building sustainable growth for the firm. It is allowing us to use the full potential of our organisation in service of our clients, as well as improving and deepening working relationships within the firm.' – Arlene Carson, Training Manager
